PALESTINE + FAIZ

Faiz Ahmad Faiz’s poems showing solidarity with Palestinian freedom have been one of the few pieces of positivity and hope that have been pushing me to continue fighting for liberation in Palestine . I made this piece using the last verse of his 1984 poem “Ek Taraana Mujahidini Falastin Ke Liye” (An Anthem for Palestinian Revolutionaries)- an incredible urdu poem offering hope, certainty and solidarity with the people of Palestine. The meter and words are very similar to one of his most famous pieces, “Hum Dekhenge”. While Pakistan’s own political history is problematic, revolutionary voices like Faiz Ahmed Faiz always stood in intersectional solidarity. This is the South Asian tradition that I hope to pass on.
